Why employ an automated migration process instead of a manual rewrite?
Both manual rewriting and automated migration have their advantages and disadvantages. One of the most compelling reasons to favor automated migration is the issue of costs.
Since a manual rewrite is in fact a complete development life-cycle for a new application, this involves significant resources and risks. On the other hand, an automated migration shortcuts through analysis, design and development – only testing and deployment phases have to be executed. The end result is obtained in a much shorter time period, it is more uniform and less error-prone.
